Domaine aux Moines, Le Berceau des Fées 2023
Tasting Note:
100% Chenin Blanc, young vines of 10 years or less, from only 2 hectares.
Those vines are eventually meant to be part of the ‘grand vin’. For now they are declassified as Vin de France.
Green apple, white flowers and citrus, energy and tension on the finish.
Region & Appellation:
Located in Savennières, Loire Valley, France. The vineyard covers 12 hectares, predominantly in La Roche aux Moines AOC, on the right bank of the Loire.
History:
The estate was founded in 1981 by Madame Monique Laroche and is now managed by Tessa Laroche, who took over from her mother in 2001 and converted the estate to organic and biodynamic farming.
Vineyard & Soils:
All the vineyard is planted around the house, some inside the house’s park, next to various fruit trees. Ideal south / south-west exposures, next to the famed Coulee de Serrant. Planted on schist, sandstone, and clay soils, ideal for Chenin Blanc.
